Do as much research as you can on prospective publishing companies before sending them any manuscript or item of written work. If there is anything I've learned in recent weeks, it's that acquisitions experts are looking for specific things and if you don't fit into that category then, chances are, it won't get written. Secondly, follow the guidelines for sending in written work- meaning, do they want it bound? Loose-leaf? Clipped? Cover page? Not having these things could almost immediately disqualify you. Write what you want and then find a publishing company that wants what you have! But, until you're at that point, write on!
