Mark your calendars! On October 18, 2014 Manteca is holding its 3rd annual Bookfest.
Celebrate the fun of reading with author talks, autographs, cooking demos, workshops, costume parade, contests, vendors, and books, books, books! — Admission is free!
Activities!
The day includes over 30+ author talks on five stages, a costume parade, slam poetry performances, street performers, cooking demos, self-publishing seminars, writers’ workshops, new and used booksellers, class-authored book displays, arts & crafts, plus gourmet food and beverage vendors. (For more information about the events, click here.)
Location:
The Promenade Shops at Orchard Valley Shopping Center provide a beautiful park-like setting for the festivities. The greenspace around the manmade lake is dotted with authors’ tables and tents; the amphitheater becomes a “storytime” stage. Gourmet food trucks and workshops line the wide pedestrian walkways, and the promenade near the roundabout fountain becomes a street faire filled with a variety of vendors. Year-Round Events for Students and Teachers:
To support reading and writing in public schools, the Bookfest leaders are adding many activities for teachers and students, starting with a bookmark design contest in April, a class-authored book contest in May, lesson-planning sessions for teachers in summer, and classroom activity guides for September. On October 18th, our friends at Great Valley Writing Project will offer free workshops for teachers who attend the Bookfest. (For more information, click here.)
It’s even more fun when you volunteer!
It takes a great deal of work to create this event. Festival leaders are constantly finding new tasks that need attention. Some volunteers work for just one or two days, but many are involved year-round. To find out how you can get involved, click here.
Drop by if you can and celebrate your love of reading alongside authors, poets, children, teachers, and literary enthusiasts!
Hope to see you there!
And as always,
~Happy Reading~
